چکیده

s of papers 29 collected daily and subjected to bioassay for detectable antimicrobial residues in yolk. Antimicrobial residues were not detected during the 7 days of treatment or the subsequent 3 days following cessation of treatment in the control, sulfadimethoxine or tylosin treatment groups. However, detectable residues were observed in eggs derived from enrofloxacintreated hens on days 6,7,9 and 10 of the study. In experiment 2, antimicrobial residues were only detected in yolks from hens treated with enrofloxacin. A subset of eggs from each group were collected at days 3-6 or 13-15 and were incubated and treated with PreemptTM at hatch. When 48 hr cecal propionate concentrations were used as an index of culture establishment, reduced (P<.05) efficacy was observed only in chicks derived from enrofloxacin-treated hens at either collection period. While several antibiotics do not appear to produce detectable egg residues or interfere with CE establishment, these data suggest that chicks derived from enrofloxacin-treated hens may not be candidates for safe and effective CE culture treatment.

Ahistological study of the corneosclera layer (Fibrous tunic) of ostrich (Struthio camelus)

BACKGROUND: The Ostrich is an interesting subject concerninganimal evolution and morphology studies. It has been speculatedthat ostrich eyes would have distinct tissue structures and this hasnot been previously studied in detail. OBJECTIVES: The aim of thepresent study was to investigate the histology of the outer layer ofthe ostrich. METHODS: Ten mature ostriches were chosen from anostrich bre...

Intramedullary Fixation Approach to Tibiotarsal Fracture in Ostrich (struthio camelus): 2 Case Report

28 Abstract Lameness is one of the most common problems of musculoskeletal injuries faced by birds especially Ostrich (struthius camales) chicks during brooding period. Mostly it occurs due to fracture in long and their associated bones because of development of pathological condition of bone softening. In avian species, external splints and intramedullary pinning are the most common method to ...

Gross anatomy of the heart in Ostrich (Struthio camelus)

Today, with emphasis on the mechanical heart and heart transplantation from one human to another andone species to another, a knowledge of the anatomy of the bird’s heart could contribute to theseaccomplishments. Eight male adult ostriches were used to study the heart macroscopically. This studyrevealed that the ostrich heart has some different features from the other birds. In the ostrich, fib...

Three-dimensional anatomy of the ostrich (Struthio camelus) knee joint

The three-dimensional anatomy of the ostrich (Struthio camelus) knee (femorotibial, femorofibular, and femoropatellar) joint has scarcely been studied, and could elucidate certain mechanobiological properties of sesamoid bones. The adult ostrich is unique in that it has double patellae, while another similar ratite bird, the emu, has none. Understanding why these patellae form and what purpose ...

In this study, the vertical, transverse and oblique diameters of the spinal cord segments (C1, C6, C12, C18, T1, T4, L1, L4, L6 and L8) and the ratio of gray matter to white matter in chick (l month) and adult (18 months) male ostriches, each group consisted of 3 animals, were measured with standard micrometric method using 6 μm thick sections by light microscope. With advancement of age, the r...
